More than half of the French, Germans , and Britons consider Donald Trump a “dictator”, according to a poll by the think tank Destin Commun, which also found that 47% of respondents in Poland share the same view, as the US President attempts to broker a peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow.
This opinion poll, published on Saturday, comes at a time when Ukraine is struggling on the frontlines against Russian forces and facing severe criticism from Donald Trump.
Washington froze its military aid and intelligence support to Kyiv this week. In response, Europeans are mobilising to compensate for the drop in American assistance and to establish a credible continental defence.
Regarding the prospect of a war in Europe in the coming years, six out of ten French people believe a Russian invasion of other European countries is likely, compared to 68% in the UK and Poland, and 53% in Germany.
Nearly eight out of ten French citizens are worried or very worried about “an expansion of the conflict in Europe in the coming years.”
Additionally, 66% of Poles and Britons want to continue supporting Ukraine, even without US backing. In France, this figure is 57%, and in Germany, it is 54%.
The possibility of sending a peacekeeping mission, after an agreement is reached, does not have unanimous support. It receives 57% of “somewhat or fully” favourable opinions in the UK, 44% in France, 41% in Germany, and only 27% in Poland.
The online survey was conducted in France, Poland, Germany, and the United Kingdom, based on more than a thousand people in each country, using quota sampling methods (sex, age, occupation, education level, and region).
