President Donald Trump is imposing a new tariff on Canada, just 24 hours after he announced he was pausing the 25% tariff on most Canadian goods. The new 250% tariff on Canadian dairy products could start as early as today or by Tuesday next week, Trump said as he addressed the press in the Oval Office on Friday.

What to Know:

• “Canada has been ripping us off for years on lumber and on dairy products,” Trump said, referring to Canada’s 250% tariff on American diary. The president said he would match those tariffs.
• “We’re going to charge the same thing,” he added. “It’s not fair. It never has been fair, and they’ve treated our farmers badly.”
• On Thursday, Trump announced a one-month pause on tariffs on Canada and Mexico products covered by the USMCA free trade treaty.
• He has also given temporary pauses on the tariffs in the auto industry and agriculture.
