A group who took part in the major “Hands Off!” protests against President Donald Trump have organized another day of action.
The 50501 group is promoting nationwide protests in all 50 U.S. states on the same day against the Trump administration on April 19.
Newsweek has contacted 50501 for comment via email.
Why It Matters
The April 5 “Hands Off!” protests marked the largest day of public demonstration against Trump during his second term. Thousands protested in cities across the U.S. and internationally. The group hopes that the upcoming demonstration sees a similar turnout.

What To Know
50501 is again calling for protests in all 50 states against the Trump administration on April 19.
In social media posts, the group stated that they want 3.5 percent of the U.S. population—more than 11 million people—to participate. They cite this figure as the threshold for “sustained resistance in order to make a difference.”
50501 said the April 19 demonstration will be to protest against what they describe as a “hostile government takeover” overseen by the Trump administration.
Further details such as exact locations of the protests and estimated attendance are currently limited.
The grassroots group has previously held nationwide demonstrations under its mantra, “50 protests. 50 states. 1 movement,” including on February 4. They also organized a “No Kings Day” protest on February 17, as well as a third demonstration opposing Trump on March 4.
50501 was one of dozens of groups that participated in the April 5 “Hands Off!” protests, which saw hundreds of thousands of people in Washington, D.C, New York, Los Angeles and elsewhere speak out against Trump and his policies.
The weekend protests came hours after Senate Republicans approved Trump’s tax and spending cut framework.
What People Are Saying
50501 while sharing a video on BlueSky promoting April 19 protests: “TODAY WE MOBILIZED OVER 3 MILLION PEOPLE ACROSS THE NATION!!! This movement has entered the next chapter: the people will mobilize again, and again, until we make a difference. It only takes 3.5 percent of the population in a sustained resistance in order to make a difference.”
Frank Hickey, a former police officer who took part in New York “Hands Off!” protest, told Newsweek: “This is what we’re standing out here in the cold for. This is what we’re getting fallen arches and stiff backs for—and I think it’s important. [The protest is] an extension of the lawlessness of the Trump regime.”
‘Hands Off!’ Protests Explained
On April 5, the “Hands Off!” protests were organized as a nationwide mobilization across the U.S. for people to oppose the policies and actions of Trump.
The demonstrations focused on a wide range of issues, including Trump’s executive actions, mass federal layoffs overseen by Elon Musk‘s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), hardline immigration crackdowns and the U.S. responses to the conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.
More than 1,200 events took place across all 50 states, as well as in international cities such as London, Paris and Berlin.
The protests were organized by a coalition of over 150 groups, including 50501, civil rights organizations, labor unions and advocacy groups.
Organizers of “Hands Off!” said the protests were a response to what they described as “the most brazen power grab in modern history,” carried out by Trump and Musk.
